Hallo Axel,

Mai in Kiew erleichtern soll. Die Visafreiheit gilt vom 1. Mai bis 1. September 2005. (afp)

President Yuschenko signs Decree on temporary abolition of entry visas for citizens of European Union and Switzerland

31.03.2005 | 21:19 | Ukrinform

President Viktor Yuschenko signed the decree entitled "On Temporary Introduction of a Visa-Free Regime for Citizens of the Member-Countries of the European Union and the Confederation of Switzerland" on Thursday.

According to the presidential press service, the decree allows citizens of the member-countries of the European Union and Switzerland to enter Ukraine without visas from May 1 to September 1, 2005.

This regime is being introduced to ensure, among other things, proper preparation for and organization of the 2005 Eurovision song contest in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a thorough analysis of this unilateral move will be conducted during this period with the aim of liberalizing the visa regime between Ukraine and member-countries of the European Union as well as between Ukraine and Switzerland.

According to the presidential press service, the decree is also aimed at ensuring real openness of the Ukrainian society, realizing Ukraine's strategic policy of integration into the European community, creating the proper conditions for attracting investments in the Ukrainian economy, facilitating active development of contacts among peoples, and promoting tourism.
